Eleven years. One through line. 

Gavyn started his career as an ICT administrator at a healthcare organization. He did everything: networks, servers, workstations. Whatever needed fixing, he fixed it. But after a while, he wanted more. Larger environments, more complex challenges. That step brought him to Itility more than eleven years ago.

What struck him immediately wasn't just the work. It was the people. Even before his official start, he and his girlfriend were invited to the Itility Summit in Sicily. The company had around 50 employees at the time. New faces everywhere, a lot of ambition, a strong drive. Overwhelming, almost. But then his girlfriend leaned over and said: "It feels like there are 50 copies of you walking around." That was the moment he knew he'd found his place.

He came in as a migration engineer. Over time, it became clear where his real strength lies. Technology matters, but mainly as a means to an end. What energizes him is connecting: facilitating  teams, cutting through complexity, and helping clients make decisions that actually hold up in practice. That focus shaped his path toward project and program management, and ultimately his current role.

Switching with focus

Gavyn moves between content, people, clients, and commercial opportunities. That variety suits him. But consulting also demands discipline. Open thinking and spotting opportunities matter, but in the end it comes down to clear agreements, ownership, and delivering what's truly needed.

That tension is part of the Itility culture: room to shape your own role, combined with a clear quality standard. It pushes you to look ahead and stay sharp on the details when it counts. For Gavyn, that's not a constraint. It's how you keep getting better.

No two weeks look the same. What stays consistent: conversations with colleagues, alignment with partners, involvement in ongoing projects, and exploring new ideas with clients. Recruitment is part of it too. Not just finding people with the right technical background, but the right mindset.

What a classroom can't teach you

Gavyn has a bachelor's in ICT Management & Security. A solid base, he says, but the real learning came after. Through projects, responsibility, and figuring out what does and doesn't suit him. He's worked in midsize environments where the impact of his work was immediately visible, and in larger organizations where that distance was much greater. That contrast made things clear: he needs ownership, visible results, and work that means something.

What keeps Itilians here long-term is the freedom to keep moving. Not along a fixed career path, but toward where you add the most value. That takes initiative and self-reflection. But it's also what makes this place stick.

Balance doesn't happen by itself

A broad role with real responsibility means balance isn't a given. Work and life both demand attention, and that needs to be actively managed. Flexibility in hours and location helps, as does the trust to make choices that fit where you are in life. That trust goes both ways, and it shapes how people work together.
